In order to grow, you have to let go.
I learned this the hard way when I was laid off back in 2008 from a job I loved in architecture. As difficult as losing my job was, the hardest part was committing to the new opportunities that were coming my way.
I couldn’t fully commit to my new path as an entrepreneur, even after seeing some success.
A lot of people don’t know this about me, but 6 months after making more money with my online business than I had ever made in 3 years worth of architecture, I was still submitting resumes and trying to get a job as an architect.
It wasn’t until May 2009 when I LET GO of who I thought I was supposed to be and fully committed to this new path in my life that I then saw MASSIVE growth and the REAL IMPACT with what I was doing. I had to let go of my prescribed path, the “American Dream”, the good grades, the architecture degree.
I had to let go of the ladder I was on for years in order to fully grab on and begin to climb the new one I was on.
We all have something we need to let go of in order to grow. Even now, after having run successful businesses for nearly 10 years, I’m still faced with new challenges and I realize that there will always be new things I need to learn to let go of.
Like right now, I really need to let go of perfectionism to be able to do the things I want to do, not just in the world of business, but as a parent and as someone who wants to be an agent of change in the world of education, too.
And now, I want to challenge you… 😃
